24/02/18 Banbridge Town 1 v Lisburn Distillery 1
Lisburn Distillery faced Banbridge Town today in a game where a win would allow the Whites to go above Banbridge in the table.
Distillery suffered a heavy defeat to Banbridge earlier in the season and had a lot to prove in today’s game however, it was Banbridge who started the quicker in the opening minutes of the game coming close to going ahead through Grant who one on one with goalkeeper, Jonah Nicholl, hit it straight at him from about ten yards out.
The Whites capitalised on this miss, Paul Young opening the scores on the 5th minute, his shot from outside the box deflected off a Banbridge defender and left the keeper rooted to the spot as it sailed into the top left corner of the net, putting Distillery in front.
After the first goal, the game opened up and was end to end with Distillery almost adding to the score as Fergusons shot got deflected and fell just out of reach of Nick Beta who slid, but could not reach the ball to tap it in the net.
Grant got his second chance of the game, coming close just minutes later as the ball was squared along the ground, across the six yard box, he was able to get a touch on it,, but not enough to turn it into the net.
Banbridge continued to apply pressure deep in to the second half, almost equalling the scores on the 72nd minute as Taggart’s corner found the head of Acheson, who headed just over the bar.
Then deep into injury time after defending resolutely throughout Distillery hearts were broken as in the 93rd minute Banbridge scored to level the game, this time from substitute Allison who equalled the scores from inside the box just before the final whistle blew.
Team Lineup: Nicholl, McMurtry, Moore (yellow card), Reid, Curley, Wright, Harris, Young, Workman, Beta.
