31/03/2018 Match Report Lisburn Distillery 1 v Portstewart 0
Premier Intermediate League
Lisburn Distillery 1 vs Portstewart 0
After a slow start to the game it was Portstewart who first came close to breaking the deadlock when in the 14th minute through James Peden’s freekick which was superbly tipped onto the post by goalkeeper Patrick Saunders but then fell invitingly into the path of Quigg but he could only blast the ball over the bar from just outside the six-yard box.
A few minutes later Portstewart again came close to getting on the score sheet later looking only for a last ditch tackle from Adam Wright, which was then cleared away by Timmy Clarke.
The Whites however were well in contention creating a few half chances of their own and when they were awarded a penalty on 23 minutes following a clumsy challenge on Mikey Withers by the visiting goalkeeper Lukasz Bednarz they seemed set to take the lead. However on this occasion the normally reliable McMurtry was unable to convert from the sport sending the ball way over the bar.
Portstewart almost capitalised on this miss a few minutes later as striker Luke Mcdowell rifled a shot from just outside the box, narrowly missing the net.
The second half saw Distillery use the breeze to their advantage although chances were limited thank to a resolute Portstewart defence that is until the 90th minute of play when, with a goalless draw looming, substitute Nick Beta found himself unmarked in the visitors penalty area and duly fired home giving the Whites three vital points in the race for the top six before the league moves into the split.
Team Line up: Saunders, Reid, Clarke, Wright, Moore (yellow), Hislop, Harris (yellow), McMurtry, Withers, Young, Ferguson.
Substitutions: Nicholl, Corry, Curley, Workman (on for McMurtry), Beta (on for Young).
