Lisburn Distillery’s proposed opening Bluefin Sports Premier Intermediate league game of the season v Newington (17th August) will not now take place.
In a somewhat strange decision the IFA Challenge Cup Committee have now reversed the previous ruling that NIFL Premier Intermediate League sides did not enter the Irish Cup competition until the second round and have now opted to include them all in the first round of the competition which is set for August 17th.
Whereas the Whites have received a bye into the second round our proposed league opposition on that date Newington will now take on Cookstown Youth instead thus leaving the Whites without a game.
Lisburn Distillery are understandably very disappointed that this decision to place PIL sides into the first round was apparently taken without consulting the clubs within the division or it appears NIFL themselves. The club will be lobbying NIFL to investigate further as to why this decision was made.
This means our first home league game of the season will not now take place until September 21st, some 6 weeks after other clubs have started their league campaigns.
