Kilmore Rec – Match Report
Kilmore Rec v Lisburn Distillery (Pre-Season Friendly) – Saturday 16th August 2022
Pre-season continued for Lisburn Distillery on Saturday with a trip to Crossgar to face Michael Carvill’s Kilmore Rec side. New Whites manager Barry Johnston, fresh from his recently holiday, was in attendance and managing things from the dugout for the first time since his appointment.
The first opportunity for either side to score came in the 2nd minute and went the way of the home side when a poor pass almost allowed a Kilmore attacker to have a shot on goal but the defence recovered well to see the ball out for a goal kick.
After this early scare the Whites settled into the game nicely and took the lead in the 7th minute when a Kilmore defender could only head the ball back towards his own goal and this released Benji Magee down the right and his cross was easily finished off by Bobby Robinson.
Kilmore had a sight of goal just before the 15 minute mark but their number eight’s effort from range was held comfortably enough by Ethan Carry. The home side did however find an equaliser five minutes later, captain Christian Irvine was caught in possession and will trying to regain the ball was adjudged to have pulled the home attacker back with the referee pointing to the spot. Number nine stepped up for Kilmore and coolly sent Carry the wrong way to make it 1-1.
After this it looked more like the visitors were going to regain the lead and a powerful goalbound effort from range crashed off the underside of the crossbar and away and two minutes later Elliott Carson just could not get on the end of a promising cross from the right.
With ten minutes left until the break the second Distillery goal did come when Irvine rose to meet a corner from the left and sent a bullet like header into the net, redeeming himself from the earlier penalty. The Whites added to their lead before the break when an Elliott free kick took a deflection and forced a great save from the Kilmore ‘keeper but when the ball was cleared to the edge of the box Stephen Sullivan fired home a great first time effort.
Half-time: Kilmore Rec 1-3 Lisburn Distillery
The Whites could have put the game out of sight in the first five minutes of the second half, firstly a cross from the right went all the way across goal with no one there to finish it off and then Magee got on the end of a cross from the left but hit his effort into the ground and the home ‘keeper gathered the ball easily.
The Whites tally was added to by a trialist who was introduced at the break and James Morgan and sandwiched in between these goals Kilmore took advantage of a lapse at the back to pull a goal back.
The final goal of the game came in the last ten minutes when Elliot scored a goal from close range to add to his impressive performance.
Next up for the Whites is a trip to face Ards Rangers this Saturday as the start to the season draws ever closer.
