Bluefin Sport Premier Intermediate League
Lisburn Distillery 2 v Banbridge Town 0
Distillery started this game brightly and appeared to be on the front foot, straight from the get go going through on goal in the 9th minute as Rooney received a ball in to the box, and took a first time shot however it was straight at visiting ‘keeper Gerard McErlean and the danger was cleared.
Distillery put more pressure on Banbridge, in the 15th minute as Clarke turned on to his left foot and delivered a ball in to the box, which was headed away by the defender, only as far as James Wright, who volleyed the ball wide of goal.
Banbridge went on an attack of their own in the 21st minute as Jack McGreanor intercepted Harris’ attempted pass before driving in to Distillery’s half with the ball and playing a decent ball through to Stephen Mcavitt, who drove into the penalty area box before dragging his shot wide.
A few minutes later, Distillery found themselves back on the attack and inside the Banbridge box, as Harris delivered a free kick, which was won in the air by Rooney, who headed it down towards Curley but, in typical central defender fashion, the volley was sliced and posed no danger to the Banbridge goal.
No goals then at half time however Distillery kept applying the pressure as the second half commenced, coming close to scoring in the 51st minute as the ball was played through to McCaw, who took a shot from distance, which bobbled in front of the keeper, who held on to it well.
Distillery’s continuing pressure, finally amounted to a goal in the 62nd minute as Josh Doyle took a throw in towards the front post, where the ball was flicked out towards James Wright who ran to the back post, arriving in time to tap the ball in.
The White’s finished the game off in the 84th minute as Banbridge ‘keeper McErlean went to clear the ball from the edge of the box, but he dwelt too long on the clearance, and directed the ball straight at the ever alert Daire Rooney, who drilled the ball home from just outside the box and into the open net.
A return to winning ways then for the Whites and a welcome three points in the bag.
