Match Report 021217 Lisburn Distillery 3 Albert Foundry 1
Tennent’s Irish Cup Lisburn Distillery 3 v Albert Foundry 1
Lisburn Distillery advanced to the fifth round of the Tennent’s Irish Cup after beating Albert Foundry 3-1 at New Grosvenor on Saturday.
However, it wasn’t without an early scare as it was the visitors Albert Foundry who struck first as with only 7 minutes on the clock McComb’s free kick was hit hard and low under the wall into the bottom left corner of the net, Whites ‘keeper Jonah Nicholl getting a hand to it on the way in but unable to prevent the ball going into the net.
Distillery should have equalised on the 19th minute as Clarke’s free kick from the right found the head of the advancing Moore who somehow put it just wide.
However after a spell of constant pressure the hosts did get back on level terms through a truly superb strike by Aaron Harris who equalised on the 34th minute in great style as he struck from about 25 yards out, straight in to the top right hand corner of the net.
McCaw’s left foot effort on the 38th minute looked to be going in the same place but it was stopped on its way in by the crossbar.
Distillery were dominant by this stage however Albert Foundry came close to retaking the lead as McComb struck again, this time his shot being well saved by Nicholl and put out for a corner. However, the danger wasn’t over as the corner from McComb was not dealt with and hit the front post almost finding its way in to the net.
McMurtry put the Whites 2-1 ahead as he was tripped in the penalty box before getting up again to convert from the resulting spot kick right on the stroke of half time putting Distillery on top going into the break.
The third and final goal of the game came at the start of the second half, in the 52nd minute as Clarke’s goalward bound cross into the box curled towards the net, John Burns tried to head it off the line but was unable to get to it in time and the resultant header found the roof of his own net.
Distillery could have made it four shortly after their third goal McCaw found himself on the edge of the Foundry box after beating his man, he was able to chip the ball into the path of Ferguson whose initial shot was saved but the ball fell for him again and he was then able to deliver a cross into Paul Young who had a free header and an open net but on this occasion he managed to hit the crossbar with his header.
McCaw also came close to scoring late on in the game on the 81st minute as he volleyed from inside the box just over the bar.
Despite the missed chances the Whites were able to come away with a comfortable win and advance forward into the fifth round of the Tennent’s Intermediate Cup.
