Lisburn Distillery 3 vs Lurgan Celtic 1
Lisburn Distillery went into this game determined to end a sequence of league draws and secure three points which would project them into the top runners amongst the league and indeed after taking control of the game early on it was the hosts who opened the scoring in the 21st minute.
Whites keeper, Jonah Nicholl, launched a long ball deep into Lurgan Celtic’s half where Francis Dugan flicked the ball towards striker Matthew Ferguson, the striker proceeding to make a menace of himself before driving into the penalty box, through a gap between the right back and the centre back, to leave himself with a one on one against the visiting ‘keeper Ciaran Fox. Fox was no match for the striker as he calmly slotted the ball into the bottom left corner of the net. 1-0 for the Whites and another goal for Ferguson.
However after this Distillery appeared to fall asleep late in to the half and allowing the Celts to get back in to the game as they equalised in the 37th minute when from a corner the ball came back out to Shane McCabe who it a great cross into the corridor of uncertainty where Nicholl tried to punch the ball clear but instead punched the ball on to the head of Aaron Rogers whose header went in to the net.
The second half started brighter for the hosts as McMurtry blasted over when well placed then the same player was unlucky as his goal bound effort was tipped onto the cross bar by Fox in the 60th minute.
However, the Whites were able to go ahead in the 79th minute as another long ball from Nicholl, got flicked in to the path of Dugan who composed himself well and went round the keeper before slotting the ball home.
Celtic, as expected pressed forward in search for a leveller, however the Whites put the final nail in their coffin in the 82nd minute as a the ball in to the box was won in the air by O’Hanlon at the back post, who headed it back in to the area for Ferguson, who was unmarked and was able to tap it in from only a few yards out.
A massive three points then for Lisburn Distillery and a result which leaves them in fifth place in the league table.
