Match report – 17/02/18 – Crumlin United 1 v Lisburn Distillery 2
17/02/18 IFA Intermediate Cup Fourth Round
Crumlin United 1 vs Lisburn Distillery 2
Crumlin opened the scores early on in this Intermediate Cup tie taking the lead on the 22nd minute through striker, Donnan, who hit a well struck half volley from just inside the box, coming off the post and into the net.
A poor start for the Whites then only seemed to get worse when on the 32nd minute, James Wright received a straight red card, for a mistimed tackle as the last man.
This looked like it was going to be costly for Distillery as Crumlin looked to take advantage of their extra man by piling on the pressure on Distillery’s defence, and they had the chance to go two nil up shortly after the sending off once again through Donnan, but thankfully for Distillery on this occasion he missed an open net from about five yards out.
This miss would later prove to be costly in the second half as Distillery drew level through a Mark Lyons own goal, as the ball deflected in off the former Distillery player as Aaron Harris drove it in to the box.
The game looked as if it was going to go to extra time however, the ten men Distillery showed great resilience to continue to attack Crumlin and were awarded with a penalty on the stroke of full time which was confidently converted by McMurtry to advance the Whites into the quarter finals of the cup.
Team Line up: Saunders, Moore (yellow card), Wright (red card), Wharry, McMurtry, Workman, Harris, Wright, Young, Beta, Ferguson.
Substitutions: Nicholl, Clarke (on for Beta), Simpson (on for Wright), Hislop, McCaw (on for Workman).
