Match report 22/12/18 Lisburn Distillery 2 v Tobermore Utd 3 (Premier Intermediate League)
Bluefin Sport Premier Intermediate League
Lisburn Distillery 2 vs Tobermore 3
Lisburn Distillery entered this game on the back of two consecutive league wins and indeed they got off to a flier in this important fixture against Tobermore when, after only two minutes, Aaron Harris found himself in space on the by-line, before delivering a pin point cross in to the six-yard area, which was duly turned home by the unmarked Matthew Fergsuon.
Confidence was soaring and Distillery came close to adding to their lead in the 29th minute, as Ferguson took a shot from outside the box, which was parried by the visiting keeper Lukasz Bednarz, but not out of play, allowing Swann to catch up with the ball and have a shot on goal, from the wide angle, which hit off the post before going wide.
However this let off for the visitors only delayed the inevitable as it didn’t take much longer until Ferguson was able to get his second of the game, scoring again before on 36 minutes, as the lively forward found space in the box and was able to turn with the ball, before hammering the ball into the back of the net.
Half time and the Whites were cruising at 2-0 and seemed destined to make it three wins from three games however there were still 45 minutes to play and ultimately that was their undoing. It took less than ten minutes in to the second half for Tobermore to grab a goal back through Jordan Thompson who put pressure on Joe Reid, the Distillery defender dallying too long on the ball with Thompson able to dispossess him before running on to a one on one with White keeper Jonah Nicholl and composing himself well to slot home the ball into the net.
All of a sudden Tobermore were right back in the game and got their second goal of the game in the 74th minute to level the scores. This time it was Ryan Whiteside who took the ball from Barry Moore’s foot, from outside the box before driving down the right wing from where he was able to play the ball hard and low in to the box for Thompson to get his, and Tobermore’s, second goal of the game.
The home side tried to raise their game and indeed were unlucky not to regain the lead on 82 minutes when a well struck shot from Michael O’Hanlon from just inside the area struck the junction of the bar and post only to bounce clear.
The Whites were shell shocked and worse was to come when in the 87th minute as long ball over the top bounced for Tobermore’s Ciaran Curran who headed it in to the path of the advancing Peter Duffin, who struck a superb half volley from outside of the box right into the bottom left hand corner of the net.
Unbelievably the mood at New Grosvenor had gone from one of jubilation to total despair in the space of 45 minutes, proof if it was ever needed that a game is never needed until the final whistle sounds.
