Match report 23/02/19 Lisburn Distillery 0 v Portstewart 3
Bluefin Premier Intermediate League
Lisburn Distillery 0 vs Portstewart 3
Overall this was a dull disappointing match with few chances for either side being created before the deadlock was eventually broken in the 22nd minute as Portstewart took the lead. On that occasion the ball was played through to Thomas Elder, who to his credit, controlled the ball well on the edge of the box before placing it courtesy of a sweet strike in to the top right corner of the net.
A few minutes later it looked likely that Portstewart were going to score again as Nicky Hudson, made a surging run down the left wing, before being forced further out wide, however, as he ran out towards the left corner flag, he back heeled the ball in to the path of Richard Vauls, who brought the ball in to the box firing goalward only to see his shot blocked by Whites ‘keeper Jonah Nicholl.
Half time and the lack lustre Whites had failed to register a single shot on target during the first period of play, deeply worrying signs for those watching on.
And it got even worse for the home on the restart of play as on 48 minutes when Caolan Gillan was allowed to find space in the box and he duly drove home the visitor’s second goal after not being closed down quickly enough by the Distillery defence.
Distillery simply couldn’t create any chances of note, their play was slow and lacked creativity and when Elder added his second of the game on 80 minutes to make it 0-3 it was game over.
