30/12/17 Bluefin Premier Intermediate League
Queens University 1 v Lisburn Distillery 0
Lisburn Distillery lost their chance to go back to the top of the Bluefin Premier Intermediate League after losing to Queens one nil on Saturday.
Queens started the game off looking the more confident of the two teams and indeed came close to scoring in the first minute through O’Hare, who blasted well over the bar.
However, a minute later the Whites went down the other end with Beta, leading the attack, forcing his way in to the box where he was taken down by the Queens defender, who according to the referee, put in a fair challenge and came away with the ball.
Distillery came close to getting a goal on the 16th minute as the ball fell to McCaw on the edge of Queens box, and he struck it on the volley with his left foot, sending the ball marginally wide of the goal.
However, it was Queens who came the closest to breaking the deadlock in the first half through Young who found himself with acres of space at the back post, his volley beat Distillery goalkeeper, Nicholl, but, was cleared off the line by defender Joe Reid who launched it off to safety, just before the half came to a close.
Queens were unlucky at the end of the first half not to get a goal, however on 67 minutes Young put them in the lead, as he ran on to the through ball played by Hughes and slotted the ball in to the right side of the net, hitting the post and in.
Young then came close to getting a second goal on the 78th minute as he made space for himself on the edge of the box, taking his time to curl a shot towards the left post, only to be saved by the diving Nicholl, who tipped the ball round the post for a corner.
A last ditch attempt to try and prompt a bit of action into to the Whites, however, it was too little too late and the game ended in a one nil loss for Distillery.
