Match report LDFC 0 v Queens 2 (26/08/17)
27/08/17 Toals Steel and Sons cup Round 2
Lisburn Distillery 0 v Queens University 2
A poor result for the Whites who see themselves out of the Steel and Sons cup in the second round after losing two -nil to Queens who they beat just last week in the league.
Queens started the game well scoring their first goal in the 11th minute through McCready when the corner came in and fell to Mullholland, his header was saved by Nicholl only to fall to McCready who buried it into the back of the net.
Distillery came close ten minutes later through Clarke whose free kick was hit hard and low but ultimately into the keepers hands.
Queens got their second goal on the 25th minute of play Mullholland this time was not denied by Nicholl as he went one on one with the keeper and composed himself well to slot the ball home to make it two against the Whites.
Timmy Clarke came into action again on the 29th this time defensively as Mulholland stole the ball at the edge of the Distillery box and tried to square it to his striking partner, McCready, however, Clarke did well to intercept the ball in the air and put it out for a corner.
The Whites came close to getting a goal back just before the half came to a close when Paul Young beat his man on the left wing and cut inside drawing the Queens centre back towards him leaving a gap which Ferguson capitalised on, creating space for himself but then opting to pass to the inrushing Beta but unfortunately it may have been wiser for Ferguson to go himself as the ball was played short and Beta’s shot was saved by the keeper who gathered well.
Distillery came out for the second half looking strong attacking from the start as McCaw picked the ball up in the right wing and delivered a cross into the box just missing the head of Ferguson but falling to Beta who took his eye off it and it just hit him on the knee and fell for the keeper’s hands.
Home ‘keeper Nicholl was kept busy in the second half pulling off another save on the 50th which stopped another goal scoring opportunity.
However, it wasn’t all Queens and Ferguson just couldn’t find the net heading over the bar on the 62nd from a Young cross, trying hard to get a goal back for Distillery.
Beta was then denied once more on 82 minutes, this time by the post, as his shot from the edge of the box bounced clear off the woodwork.
