Lisburn Distillery 1 v Dundela 0
Going into the game this was the battle between the league’s first and second placed sides and for Lisburn Distillery supporters it proved to be a superb day as they beat Dundela one-nil in the top of the table clash.
Both teams fought well creating plenty of chances, the first coming for Dundela in the 12th minute when Hughes ran down the right wing beating his man and delivering a cross into the box, which found the head of Morrison who could only just get his head on it directing it towards Murdoch, who was left free inside the box but was not able to capitalise as his volley went well high of the mark, a let off for the Whites.
Distillery were saved again shortly afterwards, this time by Nicholl, who dived superbly onto a shot from Hughes, forcing a corner.
A chance missed for Dundela which they would soon see the consequences of as Distillery made it one nil minutes later as Young ran on to a through ball which he controlled well on the left wing, a quick Cruyff style turn gave him room to cross into the box for Ferguson who took the ball down well, turned his man and slotted the ball into the bottom left hand corner of the net, a wonderful goal.
Distillery continued to apply the pressure, coming close to goal in the 39th minute through Harris who shot narrowly wide from outside the box.
Dundela had a chance to equalise in the 40th minute with a penalty however the outstanding Nicholl guessed the right way and tipped the ball onto the post denying Dundela the chance to level the game.
The Whites started the second have strong as some good footwork from Harris drew his defender creating space for the through ball to Timmy Clarke whose shot narrowly missed the target.
However, Distillery came even closer in the 65th minute through McCaw who successfully chipped the keeper from outside the box, only for the ball to be cleared off the line.
Distillery kept applying pressure to the Dundela defence, forcing them to lose the ball in their own box to Young, who squared it along the ground to Ferguson, who snapped at his shot to put it wide of the net.
The Whites were forced to make some changes late in the second half through injury, causing some disorganisation which led to some added attacking pressure from the Duns, who came close to scoring in the 74th through substitute Magee who headed just over the bar.
Curly then made a great block on the 83rd which stopped a certain goal from Black’s shot from distance.
The final scare for the Whites came in stoppage time when Calvert picked the ball up in left wing and played a driven ball through the six yard box along the ground, any contact with the ball would have put it over the line.
A missed chance which would prove to cost the Duns as Distillery remain at the top of the league with four wins out of four and Dundela move to third place behind Sport and leisure Swifts.
