Match report – Lisburn Distillery 1 v Newington 2 17/03/18
Distillery started off strong getting the opening goal on the twelfth minute as Workman’s ball in behind the defence put Ferguson through one on one with the keeper and he confidently converted to put the Whites ahead.
However the Whites were unable to build on this promising start and Newington came close to equalising the scores on the 38th minute as Richard Gowdy made a great mazy run into the box beating three Distillery defenders on his way, only to blast the ball over the crossbar from just a few yards out.
However, Newington’s hard work and effort eventually did off as they equalled the scores at the brink of half time through Gowdy who wasn’t going to miss another chance and struck home from a well struck volley inside the Distillery box.
It didn’t take Newington long in to the second half to get another goal past the Whites, this time for Liam Bracken who rose highest to get his head on to a Chris McFall freekick and placed the ball past the out stretched reach of goalkeeper, Jonah Nicholl, who tried his best to keep the ball out.
Overall a poor performance then from Lisburn Distillery and a result which sees them drop to sixth in the league, which adds pressure to them as we approach the split in the table.
Team line up: Nicholl, Moore, Reid, Wright, McMurtry, Harris, Workman, Wright, Withers, Ferguson, McCaw.
Substitutions: Saunders, Curly, Hislop (on for Workman), Clarke (on for Moore), Young (on for Withers).
