Match report v Shankill Utd
05/08/17 Lisburn Distillery 0 v Shankill United 1
It proved to be a frustrating end to pre-season for Distillery as they lost their final pre-season game before commencing their competitive season this weekend
Distillery started strongly with Beta forcing an early save from the visiting ‘keeper. However, Shankill showed that they shouldn’t be underestimated as minutes later they hit the woodwork proving that they weren’t going to shy away.
After this the game was fairly even but the visitors had the ideal chance to take the lead through Luke Briers whose run into the Distillery box proved dangerous as he was unfairly brought down and awarded a penalty in the 23rd minute. Fortunately for the Whites he was unable to convert, hitting the post, a let off for Distillery.
Briers got another chance on the 41st minute when a defensive mistake by Distillery on the edge of their own box, allowed him to go one on one with Saunders, but his shot brought out a good save to prevent the goal.
However, Shankill did break the deadlock in the 54th as their winger beat his man to get the shot off which was punched away by the keeper only to fall to feet of Briers who slotted it home.
Distillery had a last gasp chance to earn a draw in the last minute when they were awarded a penalty following a clumsy challenge by a Shankill defender however like every chance on this frustrating afternoon it went begging as the visiting keeper pulled off a great stop.
Another disappointing result then for the Whites with plenty to work on going into their first major game of the season against Ards Rangers in the Steel and Sons Cup.
