Moyola Park 2 v Lisburn Distillery 3
Lisburn Distillery made it four wins in a row with another great win for a ten man Distillery who faced Moyola Park at a stormswept Mill Meadow.
The game however had started off badly with an early goal for Moyola through striker Tiarnan Rafferty who proved to be a strong attacking threat throughout the game and caused the Whites a few problems. His first goal came in the fourth minute when he ran on to a header from Beggs and before chipping Whites ‘keeper Jonah Nicholl to put Moyola one up.
Moyola kept applying the pressure, coming close to goal again on the 14th minute through Jason Paul whose header narrowly missed the mark.
However, Moyola were soon rewarded with a second goal for Rafferty who this time tapped the ball past Nicholl when Ryan Young’s shot was mishit and looked to be going wide only for Rafferty to tap in on the slide.
Distillery did not look out of the game, Matthew Ferguson came close to getting one back on the 27th minute when he got on the end of a Timmy Clarke free kick sending his header just wide.
However, a controversial red card for Corry on the 30th minute would make things even harder for the Whites to make a comeback.
Yet, this red card seemed to only spur the Whites on as they managed to get a goal just eight minutes later through Ferguson who turned his man on the edge of the box and rifled the ball in to the bottom left hand corner of the net with his left foot.
Nick Beta also got in on to the goal scoring action just minutes later equalising the scores by combining well with his strike partner, Ferguson who was tackled inside the Moyola box, the ball fell to Beta who thumped it home into the back of the net just before the break.
The Whites came out on to the pitch raring to go for the start of the second half, coming close to goal on the first minute after the restart when Ferguson hit the post with a header latching on to a Paul Young cross from the left wing.
However, Moyola kept applying the pressure, Ryan Young’s shot from distance going narrowly wide.
Moyola received another chance on the 60th minute when a free kick went deep into the Distillery box and was met by the head of Mcavillan who squared it back in front of goal but nobody was there to knock it into the net.
Another chance missed by Moyola which would come back to haunt them as minutes later a ten men Distillery finished an amazing comeback to make the final score 2-3 to the Whites through Ferguson who headed off the crossbar into the net from a Paul Young corner.
A great start to the season for the Whites who remain top of the league with no games lost.
