Thoughts of Mac v Newington
The Thoughts of Mac – Lisburn Distillery 1 Newington 2
For the second-time this season Lisburn Distillery lost out to the bottom team in the league. In October it was Annagh United, on Saturday it was Newington. It was not the the result the club needed but equally let’s not be churlish in defeat because Newington deserved the points, the hungrier, more urgent and energetic team in the second-half.
Good day or bad Mac (Colin McIlwaine) never ducks the post-match interview and he kept it short when he said; “I will not be looking like I usually do to protect my players – I told them that with that performance today they let the whole club down.
I thought last week (Queen’s – Intermediate Cup) that we lost the game in the first-half, second-half was much better and it was a story of missed chances. Today, we can’t even make that excuse – we created nothing bar one lack-lustre effort in the second-half. Other teams seem to want it more than us and we now have to solve this problem.
We had so much potential and so much expectation for this season and now we are letting it slip through our fingers but George (O’Boyle) and I are true professionals and we will try and come with the right remedy to make sure it is right, but the club and the supporters don’t deserve a performance like that. The boys have let themselves down and in my eyes they have let the management team down and I think that is the first I have said that since I have been here.”
Tomorrow night however the Whites have the chance to get back to winning ways when they travel to Holm Park to play Armagh City (kick-off 7.45).
