06/04/19 Queens vs Lisburn Distillery
Bluefin Premier Intermediate League
This was always going be a tough match for the Whites so it was no real surprise when Queens opened the scores in the 9th minute as Phil Traynor received the ball in space inside the Distillery box and duly picked his spot past Saunders before firing home in to the bottom left corner to make it 1-0 to the hosts.
They almost made it two in the 12th minute as Chris Middleton received the ball on the right wing before crossing the ball towards the front post, where the ball bounced in front of Traynor who got his head on it, but the header wasn’t strong enough to, put the ball past Saunders.
However it wasn’t long until Queens were able to add to the score line, scoring in the 16th minute as a quick one, two played in Conor Mulholland inside the box and he composed himself before striking home into the bottom right corner.
The Whites were in disarray by this stage and 2-0 soon became 3-0 in the 20th minute as Mulholland controlled the ball with his chest on the edge of the box, facing away from goal, he kicked the ball behind him over his head, in to the path of Traynor who brought the ball down before rounding Saunders and placing the ball in the back of the net for his second goal of the game.
Timmy Clarke was the first Distillery player to test the Queen’s keeper as he received the ball about 40 yards out from goal, and drilled the ball towards the Queen’s net. His shot was well struck and on target but the home goalkeeper Declan brown saved well.
Second half
The second half followed much a similar pattern with Queen’s looking the sharper of the two teams and indeed they only took one minute in the second period to add to their tally as Mulholland was released down the right wing. He had time to look up and he play the ball across the box, where Matt Hughes was unmarked and duly placed the ball past Saunders first time to make it 4-0
And it was Hughes again, getting his second goal, in the last remaining minutes of the game as he took the ball down on the edge of the box before easing past the Distillery defence and slotting home past Saunders.
