Match report – 07/12/19- Lisburn Distillery 2 v Limavady United 1

Lisburn Distillery 2 Limavady United 1
Two goals and two moments of top quality saw Lisburn Distillery move up one place to fifth in the Bluefin Sport Premier Intermediate League.
Both goals came from Kevin Braniff; his first on 32 minutes was a stunning free-kick that took the opposition completely by surprise. With everyone lining up just inside the eighteen yard box a cross seemed to be the plan. But as the Limavady United keeper stood waiting, everyone was caught out as Braniff smashed the ball into the net from some twenty yards out – a wonderfully executed free-kick.
Michael O’Hanlon provided the second highlight that lit up a drab grey winter afternoon at New Grosvenor. On 49 minutes he weaved his way in and around Limavady defenders before an inch-perfect pass enabled Braniff to dart in and finish from close-range.
Limavady United, and manager Mark Clyde, will rue a number of missed chances in a very positive opening twenty-five minutes in what turned out to be a duel between United’s Sean McCarron and Whites’ keeper Jonah Nicholl.
McCarron, who posed the main threat on the day from The Roesiders, was involved in five incidents in that opening period and when he was on target two times Nicholl made good saves. He was off target with two other efforts and no-one could get a touch on a ball across the goalmouth (18 minutes).
After that the Whites upped their game, Connor Brown saved from Paul Young (26 minutes) before Nicholl made his best save to deny McCarron again on the half-hour and in added time Daire Rooney was denied by Brown after a Braniff cross from the right.
On forty-seven minutes Ryan Devine was narrowly wide for the visitors. Braniff’s second looked to have put the Whites in the driving seat but Daibhibd McIvor set up a tight finish when his long-range shot was deflected up and over Nicholl on 73 minutes.
There was still time for the Whites to hit the post after Young rounded Brown on 79 minutes but from a tight angle his shot came back off the upright.
