Match Report 22/0918 Armagh City 1 v Lisburn Distillery 1
22/0918 Armagh City 1 vs Lisburn Distillery 1
Bluefin Sport Premier Intermediate League
Going into the game hopeful of their first three points of the season, Lisburn Distillery returned home from Armagh with only a disappointing single point to show for their efforts.
After a tight opening Distillery came closest to opening the scores as McMurtry delivered a fine ball in to the box in the 21st minute towards Matthew Ferguson, who jumped but the ball was too high for him although it then fell in front of Dugan, who sliced his volley, only to seeit headed away by a defender on the line, who cleared to safety.
However, it was to be Armagh who opened the scoring, going one nil up from a Barry Moore own goal on the 25th minute, the defender attempting to dispossess an Armagh striker but unfortunately seeing his tackle forced the ball up and over goalkeeper, Jonah Nicholl, who was off his line and caught out from Moore’s tackle.
It took the Whites until the second half to equalise, this time, there was no defender on the line to prevent Dugan from scoring, as he powered his way into the box, beating Armagh’s offside trap, with the ball on this occasion bouncing kindly for him and this time he did not slice the volley, but hit it sweet and straight in to the bottom right hand corner of the net.
Distillery almost added to the scoreline in the 68th minute as Conor Corry crossed in to the box for Ferguson whose header was miraculously tipped on to the post by the Armagh keeper, with the home stopper preventing the ball from finding the back of the net from a header which looked certain to go in as it was directed towards the far corner.
The Whites continued to apply the pressure on Armagh as youngster, Conor Curran’s free kick, kept the Armagh keeper busy in the 70th minute, but his effort was tipped over the bar for a corner.
It just wasn’t Distillery’s day as the final whistle blew, they weren’t able to beat the Armagh shot stopper for a final time and the game finished in a 1-1 draw.
