09/11/19 – Lisburn Distillery 0 v Moyola Park 2
Bluefin Premier Intermediate League
After a couple of early Moyola chances, Distillery settled into this game and had a great chance to score in the 16th minute as Timmy Clarke crossed in to the box from the left. His ball in went over the head of Aaron Harris, who almost got his head on it, but it went over his head before being well controlled by Michael O’Hanlon, who fired goalward but the effort was deflected and the keeper was able to collect the ball.
The Whites had another chance two minutes that Clarke was involved once again in as he played a through ball with the outside of his foot out the right wing to O’Hanlon, who in turn took a touch and whipped in a cross right in front of the goal mouth. The ball bounced up in front of Mikey Withers, who had an open net from six yards out, but the bounce hit off his shin and the ball went over the bar. A spurned chance and one the Whites would go on to regret.
Distillery continued the early pressure coming close to scoring again in the 23rd minute as Clarke whipped another cross in to the box, this time it was won in the air by Withers, who forced the keeper to make a dive to save the ball.
It looked as if Distillery were going to pay for their missed opportunities in the 44th minute as Tiernan Rafferty took a shot from distance but the effort was tipped on to the bar by home ‘keeper Sean Mcllhone and went out for a corner.
The Whites started off the second half strongly coming close to scoring in the 52nd minute after a great run down the right wing by Withers whose sheer pace put the ball past the Moyola right back allowing him to drive into the penlty area. The goal was there to be shot at but instead he played the ball to Harris who couldn’t find the space to take the shot and the chance whistled away.
This missed opportunity came costly for Distillery as Moyola made it 1-0 three minutes later as Jake Taylor struck a superb effort from all of 25 yards out which cannoned off the crossbar with Connor Logue first to react as somehow the ball somehow fell down vertically allowing him to tap into the open net.
Moyola had a chance to double the scoreline in the 60th minute as Connor Lundy played Michael Tolan through on the right side of the box, however Tolan dragged his shot wide.
However, Moyola got their second goal in the 79th minute as Rafferty had another long distance effort stopped by Mcllhone, who parried the ball only as far as Lundy who was first to the ball to tap it in to the open net, ending all hopes for a fight back from Distillery.
