Crumlin United 1 Lisburn Distillery 3
Two well-taken second-half goals by Daire Rooney saw the Whites safely through to the third round of the Toals Steel & Sons Cup. The Whites led 1-0 at half-time at Mill Road after Jonny McCaw scored the first goal of the season on 38 minutes and Crumlin United then pulled a goal back on 51 minutes through Andrew Mooney.
Here’s what Lisburn Distillery manager Stephen Hatfield had to say when he spoke with David Hunter afterwards.
“We are delighted to be through; Crumlin United are a very well run side, a good side and Ciaran (Caldwell) has got some very good players out there – Marcin Farniok, Ciaran himself, Padraig Hughes and Andrew Mooney who I certainly feel is a top striker in any division below the Premier League.
It was our first game, it was their fifth game, we were expecting a tough game and that’s what we got. It’s also a massive pitch which Crumlin United are used to playing on,
they have played more matches and were sharper than us.
We know the squad, and there were eight who weren’t here today, is going play a big part in what we want to achieve this season, so we are delighted with the reaction. Yes, we might have had a few more goals but the truth is that in the Steel & Sons Cup it’s important to progress no matter how you do that and then kick on.”
Lisburn Distillery now play Bloomfield in Round 3 on 14th September 2019.
