“The Cup Dividend”
On this date in 2011, Lisburn Distillery won the Co-Operative Insurance Cup with a memorable 2-1 victory over Portadown at Mourneview Park.
“The Cup Dividend” is the latest addition to the “Distillery Collectables” series produced by David Hunter.
He writes; “It doesn’t seem that long ago since Scott Davidson and David Cushley wrote themselves into Distillery’s history with goals that saw us lift the League Cup. Remarkably, fifteen years have been and gone since then.
This booklet charts our cup journey that season under manager Tommy Wright, the first, and only, manager to win the league cup for the club – a season earlier he of course began his historic short spell as manager with “The Great Escape” season.
Our club sponsors back then were Smiley Monroe – the giants of belting, now with bases on three continents and producing 600km of endless belting annually – and they too enjoyed that famous win as you will see in the booklet. I am delighted to write that they have very kindly sponsored this booklet, so our thanks to them, and the Monroe family, for doing that and enabling us all to look back with great pride on that Saturday afternoon in April.
The booklet is in my standard format for the “Collectables” series – A5, full colour – and details all our cup games along with a comprehensive range of my own photographs. Looking back at those brought back many memories and whilst there are those sadly no longer with us, everyone in the ground that day supporting us will have their own memories.
For instance; which Distillery supporter remembers hugging his mother in celebration? Other memories? – so perhaps has a then “First Citizen” swinging a club scarf with gusto, or a current NIFL club manager who joined “The Whites’” supporters that afternoon. Indeed, there were two happy “emberizidae” in the stand. All in all, a great, and memorable, day was had.
The booklet has 28 pages and comes complete with an A4 poster print (of a specially compiled composite image) for £10.
With it being Easter this weekend, the “The Cup Dividend” will be available from Saturday 11th April (the home league game against Dergview).”
