Distillery FC at Grand Central
It’s a busy time of year to be travelling so expect plenty of fellow-travellers if you are out and about at Belfast’s newly constructed “Grand Central Station” (GCS).
It is a flagship project here in Northern Ireland. Owned by the Northern Ireland Transport Holding Company and operated by Translink, the huge bus and train station has 26 bus stands and 8 railway platforms designed to cater for up to 20 million passenger journey a year.
With construction estimated at £340 million, the new station is on the Grosvenor Road, a mere stone’s throw from Grosvenor Park, our former home and a historic venue in the history of local football.
As part of its “community engagement” Translink has erected a number of story boards on the walkways into the station; they tell many stories about the local area, Belfast, people and businesses.
Amongst them are two (to the left of the exit walkway to Durham Street, on leaving GCS) about us, and the Royal Irish Distilleries (Dunville’s distillery in Belfast). There is also an additional storyboard about Dunville Park in Belfast amongst the many other interesting boards.
It’s great to see the club, one of the great historic names in Irish League football and beyond, included in the storyboard collection, and the club thanks David Hunter for his input over a hectic few days in July.
